Cardinals in Spring

Garden Sentinels: A Cardinal Homage

In a serene corner of the garden, where blooms whisper secrets to the dawn, I find my muse in the cardinals that frequent our yard. This painting captures their poised elegance amidst the blossoms, an ode to a beloved family memory cherished by my husband. His grandmother adored these vibrant birds, and their presence now weaves a tender thread through the canvas of our life.

With each visit, they seem to carry stories from the past, their scarlet feathers a vibrant echo of enduring love. In portraying them, I’ve loosened my grip on the brush, letting emotion guide each stroke, stepping away from precise lines to embrace the raw essence of the moment. It’s less about creating a perfect likeness and more about the feel of their fluttering hearts and fleeting beauty.

This piece is an exploration, a softer approach to my art that reflects the gentle grace of these feathered friends. It’s a visual sonnet to the cycles of life and the simple joy that observing nature can bring. Just as these cardinals return with the changing seasons, this painting is a return to the heart’s foundations, an homage to family and the love that ties us to the natural world.
